Well, I somewhat doubt that- maybe it's just me, but neither French nor German have the stereotype of ones who do charity, I'd think it's more of an British/American thing. Prove me wrong, but I've never heard of an French (or German, for that matter) analogue of "Bill and Melinda Gates' Foundation".

it' sjust you :) Belarus is full of mini-vans with Kinder der Chernobyl logo. German volunteers work in Belorussian hospitals... My husband PhD had been sponsored by French Embassy - it's a charity
of sorts.
