disfunctional family
Apr. 18th, 2004 05:17 pmthe adjective has become so familiar in conjunction with family that these two words are as inseparable in the public consciousness as "happy family'' was in fifties.
Ozzie's family is disfunctional. so does Chandler's ("Friends"). so does dentist's in "My family", to name the few but almost any half-serious movie or even sitcom will do. as if happy families do not exist anymore.
but I am sure that this "disfunctionalism" is no closer to the truth than the core family - true and happy - had been.
