wow, has it been more than a year already? 'more' because I remember when you were writing about your son being young and single :)

I am fine, thank you. My 4 y.o.'s started "school", which is a prep year and he complains that they don't study, just play...
but he is not enthusiastic about homework - writing excises. other than that nothing much, this time next year will be more interesting,
we will know for sure whether we are going back to Belarus or staying in the UK

as you can see we are having a discussion with oryx and crake. it is about the quote.
do you think it implies that lowering one's voice will srenghten one's argument?
or these two actions are independent?

To get back to the question...I tend to listen to softer spoken people more easily. I get frustrated with people yelling at me and I find I am listening more to the tone of their voice than to their actual words. I guess that means (for me) that it does imply one's argument will be strengthened by lowering one's voice. I also tend to pay more attention if there is an absence of swearing. I'm not a prude...I just think there are so many amazing words that can get your meaning across without relying on swearing.

в поговорке нет (как сказала бы farraige) каузальной зависимости между громкостью голоса и силой довода.

есть. однако native speakers отмечают неправильность смысла этой фразы. на самом деле
buy three for the price of two. спросим creepy suzy

Я извиняюсь, это две совершенно разные фразы.

"Купи автомобиль и получи второй бесплатно!"
и
"Купи два автомобиля по цене одного!"
Одна фраза не является более правильным вариантом другой, они просто разные.
Кроме того, есть же и другие варианты, например
"Subscribe to our newspaper and get a free T-shirt!" Тут никакие "два по цене одного" рядом не стояли.
