По моему все-таки это удача. Если имелось бы ввиду богатство, можно было сказать wealth или riches как раз для того, чтоб избегать двухсмислия. Удача же- тут с выбором слов сложней, можно сказать luck, но опять- есть good luck, есть bad luck, и только fortune- это недвыхсмысленно good luck.
Конечно, Suzy могла и специально придумать фразу с двойным толкованием- тогда мы оба правы.

additionally, my LJ read by many people fluent in English and Russian - native speakers of Russian I must add in this case, some of them are professional translators. if my translation is incorrect they always point that out.
filnally, look at when this writer lived - late XIX century. in books of that time "fortune" is used in the meaning I used in translation.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." - one of the most famous beginnings.
